Strängsforsen in the Klarälven River is the only rapids in Klarälven that have not been developed with a power plant and thus offers completely unique fishing opportunities such as trout, grayling and salmon. Strängsforsen and the river Klarälven here in the north have been restored after the interventions of the wood flotation in the last century. Small streams and bays have been reopened where young and small fish can survive. Large and smaller stones have been placed in the river to improve the biotope for the fish. The effect of this can already be seen by the fact that there are many more fry fish in the river far above Strängsforsen.
Strängsforsen itself is a rapids with a strong current and wading in it is possible but still dangerous. This is why fly fishing with a fly line is usually done from land and can be difficult in places due to the trees and bushes in the background. That's why fly fishing is often done with casting equipment and studs, with the casting rod itself at the very end of the line and two or three flies hanging from the stud.
This makes it possible to fish very accurately behind rocks and to reach large parts of the river width from one side.
In most places in Strängsforsen itself the river is not very deep, about 1 meter, but with much deeper holes. This makes fishing with sinking wobblers, spoons and spinners difficult. But on the other hand, float wobblers are very useful - with good casting equipment you will get relatively long casts with these, even when the weight is low.
During the day the fish are mainly in the middle of the river or the lake, but in the evening and at night the fish migrate to the shore to forage for food. Then you can go down the bank with fly fishing equipment - you don't need the long casts.
But don't forget to bring your landing net, because in Strängsforsen you can expect big fish.
To the north and south of the Strängsforsen, the Klarälven river flows quietly and is deep in places. Here you can fish with all kinds of casting equipment and flying equipment and wade without problems where the depth allows. You can also catch whitefish and pike in the quieter parts of the Klarälven. In many places there are roads to the river where you can also park your car. The area is so large that there are no crowds with fishermen, you will always find a place where you can be alone.
Spring fishing in Strängsforsen can be very exciting. When the sun gets stronger in April, the insects at the bottom of the river come to life and the large trout need food. Then a lot of big fish are caught.
The fishery in Stängsforsen and Klarälven and the surrounding area is privately owned but managed by two so-called protected fishing areas - in the north of Norra Finnskoga Fisheries Conservation Area and in the south of Sysslebäck's Fisheries Conservation Area. We have not been able to obtain a joint fishing permit for these two areas, but each area is large enough to fish for several weeks.
There are at least 80 other fishing spots where you can get pretty close by car. Most of these fishing spots are located in the wilderness and you can enjoy the beautiful nature.
There are also some "Put and Take" lakes with rainbow trout. Special fishing permits are available for these lakes.
Fishing permits are available at various locations in the area.
You just have to bring your own fishing equipment.
If you feel like eating your catch after a wonderful day of fishing? We have a professional smoker, where you can smoke your freshly caught fish, and after smoking you can eat your freshly caught "catch of the day" with a drink at or in your cottage or the "fire pit".
